Stumbled onto this great find!!

This was my first read by Clara Bayard and I was instantly impressed by the premise of the story, very creative!! I love the developing relationship between Trey and Amanda in their search for her sister Kat. The intricacies of Eden Club add a level of mystery and danger and leave you guessing as to who is good and who is evil.

I recommend this story and it's sequel as I eagerly await book 3!

Help Me

This was a slow book in the beginning, but gradually had me intrigued. But then it was over :( way too soon. I liked how the two main characters were shaping up and how the mystery of the plot was developing. I definitely want to know how it will end. Hopefully the next book will conclude at least one of the mysteries laid out for us so far.

Great book, It has helped me with so many essays on reflective practice and equally important, my own reflective learning journals for university that had to be graded. It is very important when writing a learning journal to know exactly what it is, where it comes from, and why it is good practice to reflect on our experiences. This book explains reflective practice thoroughly in terms that can be easily understood. This book has helped me understand the value of reflective practice and I have not only changed, developed and grown professionally, but also, it has given me a more open mind personally. I highly recommend this book to all people, not just professionals or students because it gives us ways that we can be enlightened and mindful, therefore, perhaps understand each other more clearly and ultimately, help us live in peace with each other. An impressive work

As an amateur history buff, I found this to be an amazing work. I had been looking for a history of how the Native American federations had inspired the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and I was not disappointed. While Sidis seems to take a pro Native American approach, he is very complete in his expositions. There are no citations to show his sources, but the few things I checked up on seem to pan out. His explanation of the differences between the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Southern States resonates in a very meaningful way, increasing my understanding of the history of the U.S., and how that history continues to play out in today's politics. For example, his point that our Constitutional form of government was meant to undermine democracy is clearly reflected in the 2016 controversy over how delegates are selected in the Presidential primaries, often undermining the will of the voters in favor of party-selected "representatives." Also, the distinction between proponents of "States rights" and those of "individual rights" is still very much alive.
I also appreciated the clarity and intelligence of his writing.
What I learned from William Sidis will stay with me, and I'm sure I will return to this fascinating work many times.

Sidis' unusual take on American history shakes the usual view by drawing correspondences from Native American federations to the forms out of which the various and very different constitutions of the states were envisioned. He draws clear distinctions in the use of words like federation, democracy, republic, monarchy, freedom and liberty, all keystones of the philosophy of governments that has come from the American revolution and its influence on European history. Sidis ties in a fair amount of detail about the "Cincinnati Conspiracy". Very interesting take, especially for someone somewhat versed from the usual versions.

Book Review of TotIs by J Joseph Kazden – Kirkus Reviews

Kazden offers a mind-expanding debut novel about a symposium examining the core concepts of the universe.
Imagine if great minds from across the ages could congregate in one room to discuss their understanding of time and reality. In this ambitious work, Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, and Stephen Hawking, among others, come together to do just this. To befit the nature of the symposium as a great Hellenic institution, the author gives each of the characters Greek names. Einstein is called “Miapetra,” meaning “one stone”; Hawking is referred to as “Geraki” or “hawk,” whereas Isaac Newton is “Neatono” or “new ton.” The men meet at Neatono’s house, where they begin a discussion about relativity theory, and specifically how the past, present, and future are relative. The author’s use of Socratic questioning proves to be a gentle introduction to complex ideas, particularly for the uninitiated. Yet, readers may still benefit from prior knowledge of quantum mechanics to truly grasp this discussion. The explorations of how perceptions of reality vary between individuals are particularly fascinating: “So two individuals of the same species with sensory equipment of unequal quality will experience differently the same reality, to all intents and purposes, would you agree?” The book introduces two new definitions: antIs, “the human observer’s experience of reality and the universe,” and totIs, “which defines a total reality of the universe unavailable to human observer’s created antIs reality.” The arguments are dazzlingly convincing, although there’s a certain arrogance in reanimating the world’s greatest thinkers simply to have them concur with one’s main thesis. However, the book is not without a wry humor—Max Planck talks of switching to a gluten-free diet and Newton speaks of getting his cataracts removed. Purists may contest the probability of each word the author drops into the mouths of these great men, but this controversy is part and parcel of this brilliantly daring piece of work.

About the Author

J. Joseph Kazden was born in Brooklyn, New York, and he studied mathematics, chemistry, and psychology in college during the early 1970s. Deeply influenced by the ideas of such thinkers as Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell, he began a lifelong pursuit of the nature of perception and reality. This led to the study of Taoist, Buddhist, and Hindu thought, along with shamanic and First Peoples rituals and practices, in addition to continued study in physics and cosmology, focusing on the counterintuitive nature of the reality described by relativity, quantum mechanics, and particle physics.

In the early eighties, he began a career in art, focusing on images generated by the psyche, which Jung called archetypes of the collective unconscious. Believing that the world we experience is not ultimate reality, he came to an epiphany in 2012. This book is the culmination of this journey and the expression of that epiphany.

Highly Recommend this Book.

Totis challenges our view of “reality” in an entertaining and easy to follow story. Kazden crafts a hypothetical conversation between some of the greatest thinkers known to mankind blending their theories and discoveries to justify the possibility that we are all living a persistent illusion. This is a powerful book that has the potential to change the way the reader views the world.

An Easy Introduction a Philosophy

Although I do not think of myself as a philosophy student I found this book VERY easy to follow as J Joseph builds his case, step by step. The author has cleverly given the 'argument' roles to known philosophers to keep it interesting. The writing itself is succinct and carefully written to encourage thinking along these lines. I recommend it.

"TotIs" expanded my mind and my ideas about reality and the way I perceive it. Kazden dissected huge and complex ideas in a way that was non- intimidating, comprehendible and fascinating. As I was reading "TotIs", I would continually find myself taking a step back and examining the world around me. I highly suggest this book!

About the Author

Edward Blair�is the Michael J. Cemo professor of marketing and entrepreneurship and chair of the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship in the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. He has been chair of the American Statistical Association Committee on Energy Statistics, which advises the U.S. Energy Information Administration on statistical matters, and previously served on the U.S. Census Bureau Advisory Committee. He has been a National Science Foundation panelist, national conference chair for the American Marketing Association, editorial board member for Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Business Research, and instructor in sampling and survey methods for the American Marketing Association School of Marketing Research. His research interests include survey sampling and cognitive aspects of survey methodology.�

Johnny Blair is an independent consultant. Previously, he was a principal scientist and senior survey methodologist at Abt Associates Inc., where he directed the Cognitive Testing Laboratory. He has conducted research on sampling rare populations, measurement error in proxy reporting, and cognitive interviewing for pretesting survey instruments. He is a member of the Design and Analysis Committee, which provides statistical advice for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often referred to as The Nation’s Report Card. He has served on National Research Council panels to assess major government-sponsored surveys. His research publications include many book chapters, and over 50 articles in academic journals and in the Proceedings of the Joint Statistical Meetings of the American Statistical Association Section on Survey Methods. He served two terms on the editorial board of Public Opinion Quarterly and is a frequent peer reviewer for several other research journals.�

Clear, Applicable, and Extremely Helpful

Written by two authors with authoritative stature in survey research, this is a very useful book for survey practitioners.

The idea of drawing samples to study a population may seem obvious. In practice, however, many pitfalls exist. This book starts with sampling basics, covering how to define and frame the population, moving on to sampling and executing research. It also explains in detail how to conduct two perhaps most commonly used sampling methods, stratified sampling and cluster sampling. A big strength of the book is that it's very practical and crystal clear. The book explains arcane statistical concepts related survey sampling without using a single Greek letter! For example, the concept of Central Limited Theorem can be elusive to many, even experienced practitioners. This book uses a simple numerical example to illustrate it before discussing sample size selections. Amazingly clear. Wish I'd encountered statistics like that.

Coupled with another book by the same group of authors, Designing Surveys: A Guide to Decisions and Procedures, you pretty get all the references needed to have a practice in surveying.

Highly recommended for those interested in survey topics.
